Syrian Rebels Receive Surface-to-Air Missiles Via Turkey: The End Is Near for Assad

Syrian rebels have begun to receive surface-to-air missiles via Turkey (see: http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/07/31/us-usa-syria-missiles-idUSBRE86U1T920120731). This should not come as a surprise. You will recall President Obama's telephone conversation with Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan on Monday (http://news.yahoo.com/us-turkey-accelerate-syria-transition-white-house-202114418.html). Washington has agreed that there should finally be an end to this ugly civil war.

It is only a matter of time before Assad's attack helicopters begin to fall and the morale of his loyalists disintegrates. Meanwhile, the street to street fighting in Aleppo continues with grisly pictures of corpses accompanied by cries of "God is great!" cropping up on the Web.

Assad? As reported by Lebanon's Daily Star (http://www.dailystar.com.lb/News/Middle-East/2012/Aug-01/182962-assad-says-syrias-fate-hinges-on-battle-with-rebels.ashx#axzz22Iatm9Mj):

"Assad has not spoken in public since a bomb on July 18 killed four of his top security officials during a rebel assault on Damascus and has only appeared on television once. His whereabouts are unknown and it is not even clear if he is in the capital."

Although psychotic, Assad obviously senses that the end is near and is preparing for a hurried departure.
