Paul Ryan Will Wipe the Floor with Biden (and Obama): Ryan to Change the Tenor of this Election

Those who read this blog know that since April 2011, I have been making the case for Paul Ryan. I would have preferred him as the Republican presidential candidate, but Ryan decided not to run, and I suppose that we will just have to "make do" with him as Romney's vice presidential running mate.

Ryan is without a doubt one of the smartest, if not the smartest, member of Congress, and neither Obama nor Biden are able to debate him. Watch as Biden, attempts the lawyer's trick of studiously ignoring Ryan's comments, and note Obama's stammer when attempting a riposte without a teleprompter.

Do I agree with everything that Ryan says? No, but he will raise the bar of this presidential election, which has descended into a mudslinging contest, inasmuch as Obama has no accomplishments on which to run. Axelrod had hoped that Obama could coast into a second term by running a negative campaign emphasizing Romney's tax returns and ridiculously tying Romney to the death of a steelworker's wife. This ends now.

Instead of this being a contest involving who is "cooler" or more a man "of the people," the Democrats will be forced to contend with serious ideas intended to remedy America's economic malaise. Both Obama and Biden are not equipped to debate Ryan.

Sure, Obama will also invoke scare tactics with respect to Ryan. But unlike 2008, when Sarah Palin initially bumped McCain's poll numbers higher, but then invited derision throughout the rest of the campaign, this will not be the case here. The more Americans come to know Ryan, the more they will respect and admire him. Although most Americans are still not familiar with Paul Ryan, they will soon learn that there can be no ignoring his ideas and intellect.

Although we still await confirmation of Ryan's candidacy later in the day, my congratulations go out to Governor Romney and his staff for changing the tenor of this election.

  1. Oh, Jeff, I disagree. I've just left a beach (away from civilization) only to find out that Paul Ryan is Romney's choice. If Catholic BISHOPS are accusing him of "murdering" the poor, he must be really, really, really bad. Needless to say, I am against murdering the poor (or anybody else).
Well, I am not voting this year, of course.
The choice between Obama, who is murdering the world and Romney/Paul who are murdering the vulnerable, is charming. Oh, civilization.
Why did I leave the beach?

  2. Paul Ryan is a disastrous choice. All you have to do is watch the video clip as he attempted to explain to his constituents that his plan involved cuts to health care and they all but physically attacked him. Even today when Romney introduced Ryan and ironically accused Obama of cutting Medicare by billions, the crowd present began booing. No Jeff, Ryan is not the winning factor for Romney.

  3. Thanks, John!

The seniors in that audience all but physically attacked Ryan? Come on . . .

I don't know if Romney will win with Ryan. I do know that Romney would have lost without Ryan.

Obama, without a record of success, knowingly sought to turn November 2012 into a plebiscite on Romney's wealth, tax returns, performance at Bain, and involvement in the death of a steelworker's wife.

Regardless of your feelings and beliefs concerning Ryan, he will necessarily force the Democrats to face the issues.

Sure, there will be the attacks on Ryan's Medicare policy, but ultimately Obama will need to respond with policy statements that go beyond "Change."

Without fiscal and budgetary change, the US is headed for certain disaster.

Say what you will about Ryan, he will necessarily introduce at least some small measure of intelligence back into the election.
