The University of Chicago Says No to Safe Spaces

Finally, a ray of sunshine from academia. As reported by the The Chicago Maroon:

"Incoming first-years received a letter from the College today making clear that the University of Chicago does not condone safe spaces or trigger warnings.

'Our commitment to academic freedom means that we do not support so-called ‘trigger warnings,’ we do not cancel invited speakers because their topics might prove controversial, and we do not condone the creation of intellectual ‘safe spaces’ where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own,' reads the letter from Dean of Students Jay Ellison."

Bravo, Mr. Ellison. Gutsy. Sets the University of Chicago apart from other American campuses that have surrendered to fanaticism.

I haven't been back to the University of Chicago since receiving my B.A. from that school in 1974. Perhaps it's time to visit. Famous for its "common core" undergraduate requirement, the University of Chicago has again demonstrated that its commitment to education remains undefiled.

  1. The pundit parsing has U of Chicago "assaulting" 'safe spaces', or not:

definitely did not not just say no, or not...what will the students do?...will political correctness be contained east of the Appalachians?...
my bet is anyone saying fracking is safe will still be shunned as a "rightwinger" because every issue is now a political litmus test, courtesy of the DNC in the Age of Obama, whose presidential library will be "hosted" by University of Chicago, with mandatory transgender bathroom access as stipulated by Executive Order...

    1. a more formal opinion as to how every issue in America IS a political litmus test, shunning a deliberate tactic:

"Conservatism’s ‘Racism’ Isn’t What You Think It Is

Neither conservatism nor the GOP has been acting as the cover for clandestine bigotry. There is, however, a group of people reacting to racial identity politics."

"...That’s why so many people—millennials especially—want to be identified as globalists. They’re ashamed of their disgraceful nation, which has been effectively stereotyped as hateful and bigoted—a belief Barack Obama reinforced when he said “Racism is in our DNA” and reinforced by Hillary Clinton’s running mate, Tim Kaine, who recently called for whites to become a “minority” to atone for racism.

Everything conservatives hold dear culturally, politically, and socially has been labeled and stigmatized, not because of actual racism or covert racism, but because leftism has been a raging success. Groupthink has won, as a majority of people now believe the lies of the powerful in-group (liberalism), and shun anything the Left has deemed untouchable, including principles of liberty.

You can try to reason with them. You can put studies and evidence before them. You can try to clothe conservatism in a cool new dress, but it won’t work. As soon as the truth is revealed that your beliefs run counter to liberal ideology, you will be shunned.

Here’s the bitter truth all conservatives must come to grips with: Conservatism has been negated by stigma. People can’t see the truth because they’re afraid of the stigma. There is no beauty in traditional American values; there is only shame. This goes beyond even political correctness, which seeks to control speech. It seeks to assign blame. ..."

"...It’s not just that “this ain’t your grandfather’s Democrat Party;” it ain’t your father’s Democrat Party either.

    Bill Clinton’s Democrat Party

Believe it or not the party wasn’t always universally and stridently against organized religion (except Islam), religious liberty, traditional marriage, borders and sovereignty, national security, and Israel. It’s actually quite a new phenomenon that every member of the party must be fanatically into transgenderism, boo God, the military, and Jerusalem at their convention, support full-blown cradle-to-grave Marxism (Hillary to Bernie: “your cause is our cause”) promote and defend every abortion on demand — including taxpayer funding for harvesting baby organs — embrace and idolize every form of sexual promiscuity, place illegal aliens ahead of Americans, coddle the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas, cozy up to every Islamic totalitarian under the sun — from Mohamed Morsi and the Ayatollahs to Turkish President Recep Erdogan, and champion violent lawlessness and the crime agenda in our major cities. ..."

[forgot climate change, but about time someone noticed what the Democratic Party has become...will anyone else?]

      Is Google the Alt Left?

Is anyone reporting news in a forest full of falling trees that have no echo?
