Gail Collins, "Guess What It’s Time For!": Seamus the Dog

The title of Gail Collins's latest New York Times op-ed is "Guess What It’s Time For!" (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/12/opinion/collins-guess-what-its-time-for-a-gop-debate.html?_r=1&hp). Although Gail's answer -- another Republican debate -- hardly came as a surprise, my guess, given her world outlook, was Seamus the dog, and Collins didn't disappoint. For the twenty-sixth time, she alluded to the story:

"The antipathy toward Mitt Romney is the most fascinating part of a deeply fascinating political season. What is it about this guy? Is it just because he once drove to Canada with the family dog strapped to the roof of the car?"

In an earlier NYT op-ed entitled "Donald Trump Gets Weirder" (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/02/opinion/02collins.html?ref=opinion), Collins observed that Donald Trump, who, at the time of this April 2011 opinion piece was still a presidential candidate, had alikened Collins to a canine:

"During one down period, I referred to him in print as a 'financially embattled thousandaire' and he sent me a copy of the column with my picture circled and 'The Face of a Dog!' written over it."

Did this unhinge Collins, causing her to write obsessively about Seamus? She really should stop, or someone will soon be writing, "Gail Collins Gets Weirder."
